3-D Animations for Introductory Electromagnetism

Dr. Michael R. Gallis

Algebra and Calculus based Physics sequences can present significant visualization challenges, which are particularly acute in Electromagnetism, to both instructors and students. Animations can provide an excellent means of aiding in the visualization of dynamical systems, complex geometries, processes and more. The computational power of a modern PC and the availability of a variety of free programs enables anyone with a modest technical background to create useful animations. Samples of 3-D animations related to topics in Electromagnetism will be presented as well as a brief discussion of the software tools used to create the animations.
